Today is Hug Your Cat Day! Taking a day to acknowledge your feline friend with a hug is what Hug Your Cat Day is all about. It has been proven that hugs from your pets can decrease stress, lower blood pressure, and create a healthier life.
While we all know how much we love to give our pets attention, not all cats are keen on snuggling, so it is important to be cautious and respectful. Here are some helpful tips to approaching your cat:

- First and most importantly, find your cat. Look under beds, windowsills and their favorite chair. Singing ?Here kitty-kitty? doesn?t hurt either.
- Gently petting your furry friend in their favorite spot to help them relax is a good way to start the initiation.
- Be loving but brief, most cats will only tolerate a quick exchange.
Why stop there though? Why not do additional great things for your cat on this special day?
Show your appreciation for your cat by rewarding them with their favorite treat or new toy, clean out their litter box, make sure they are up to date on their vaccinations, file their claws, sign them up for cat insurance or simply join them on their favorite chair in the sun for a cat nap. Not only is this a day to express your love and affection but it is also a day to raise awareness for feline causes. Helping out at your local animal shelter or looking into adopting at a shelter is a great place to start helping the cause.

Communication Intern
Amber is a full time student at the University of Washington and she is studying Media and Communications. This will be the last quarter of her junior year and she is very excited to be getting valuable interning experience at Trupanion. Amber is the proud owner of two Yorkshire Terriers, Lola and Willy. Amber and her two dogs like to do activities outdoors such as hiking, going to the park or simply relaxing in the sun.
